| Born and raised in Arizona, Christopher S. Holdread has developed an appreciation for all that the visual world has to offer. A natural transition from enjoying the Arizona landscape was the desire to record and share his vision. In this, he began recording what he saw with a camera. Although he began "taking" photographs in the early 1990's, he moved into "making" photographs in 2000. It was at this time that he began to seriously study the techniques to bring out the most in his images. Mr. Holdread developed the mentality, at this time, of a minimalist in regards to equipment. In this, he chooses to use simple, fairly inexpensive equipment that has few bells and whistles. In this maintenance of the basics, he is able to focus on the process and composition of his images. However, at times, when the lighting and subject matter are just right, he will use what equipment he carries to alter the images. At this time, he will pursue a surreal feel to the images that he composes, taking the image to the extreme of what equipment and film will permit. It is this deception that takes the viewer even deeper into the illusion of the images. Currently, Mr. Holdread resides in Flagstaff, AZ. He completed his education at Northern Arizona University, graduating in the Spring of 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems. |
